World Expo 88 occupied a mixed usage 40-hectre resumed parcel of land on the South Bank of Brisbane River. Inspired by the desire to create an interactive multicultural landscape, Expo 88 consisted of a number of culturally themed gardens adjoined by walkways. Multi-faceted soft landscaping was complimented by large lagoon areas, man-made rock and water features. The landscaping included the planting of over 250 000 temperate and tropical plants.
